The Inside Voice #25- “Ships and Anchors” and the Inside Voice #26 – “Former Child”

“Ships and Anchors”

In the day
you are the ship-
drifting out to sea

In the night
you are the anchor-
holding steady to me.

This poem was written about Chris, if I’m being honest. In the day time he often times feels distant and distracted. I get frustrated by this and often feel like I am on one place, while he floats away in his own world. Yet, despite those frustrations, at night when we are sleeping we are always so instinctively snuggled up to each other while sleeping- that it’s typically the time I forgive him for anything I’m stewing on.

“Former Child”

She wanted to be inspired
to her core.
She wanted to work less
and she wanted
to play more.

So she built herself
a time machine
and pulled out the child
that she used to be.

It’s no secret on this blog that I’m often frustrated with the full-time work, 9-5 grind that has become so normalized in our society. I often feel like I’m not living life to the fullest, and miss those younger days without all the stressors and blocks to our creative, free-spirited selves.

Which was your favorite out of these two? What do they mean to you?
