For our 4th anniversary back in May, we stayed close to home and spent the weekend in Hermann, Missouri. We spent our time winery hopping and enjoying each other’s company. For our stay, we decided to try something a little unique and picked The Cottage, a collection of treehouses and cabins. We spent three nights in the Sunset Treehouse.

Type of Stay: Treehouse
First Impression:
My first impression wasn’t of the treehouse itself, but of the road leading up to it. A narrow gravel road wound through the trees, feeling tight in Chris’s truck. I was relieved I wasn’t the one driving. I’d surely hit a tree somewhere. When we arrived, I was happy to see our treehouse tucked into the back corner of the property. I did immediately notice that the outdoor areas felt a little more overgrown than the photos suggested. This was most noticeable around the picnic table and hammock. Inside, however, the bright natural light quickly felt welcoming.

🕯️Cozy Factor – The treehouse is a small space, which automatically gives it a cozy feel. The loft bed had a cute quilt with twinkly lights above it. These added touches made it feel like a cozy little hideaway in the trees. It also had two little decks to sit out among the trees, sipping coffee and reading a book.
💫Character – The character in this lodging is more in the treehouse style itself. The interior and decor are fairly simple. But who doesn’t want to stay in a treehouse at some point in time?

🌈Uniqueness – Staying in a treehouse is certainly a unique experience, but beyond that, the accommodations themselves felt fairly straightforward. I’d describe it as a glamping-style stay that combines nature, comfort, and just enough modern conveniences without feeling overly luxurious.
🥐Amenities – The treehouse came equipped with a bathroom, shower, hammock, picnic table, microwave, coffee maker, and mini fridge. Coffee pods, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and juice were provided. There was even a small fan in the bedroom, which, as a couple who need the noise, were excited to discover!
👋Staff – We only encountered one staff member during our stay. He briefly came to fix the hammock hook that had fallen off its post. We didn’t interact much, but he seemed friendly and was efficient, quickly fixing it and moving along.
🛣️Location – If you want to be in a walkable area of Hermann, this might not be the place for you. The treehouse is just outside of downtown Hermann. However, it’s still only a few minutes’ drive, and the trolley and taxi services will still pick you up if you’re planning on a day at the wineries. If you’re looking for a bit of distance from the hustle and bustle, it’s a great spot to stay close while getting some quiet. This might be needed in busy seasons, like Oktoberfest!

😴Sleep Quality – I slept well here, aside from having to navigate the ladder in the middle of the night for a bathroom trip. The bed was comfortable, and the temperature stayed surprisingly well-regulated despite all the windows. I found myself waking up earlier than usual. I wondered if sleeping among the trees made me more in tune with the sunrise.
🌄Views -Despite being a treehouse, the views weren’t quite what I expected. We could see the surrounding woods on one side, but the road, the nearby cabin, and another treehouse were visible on the other. While it still felt wooded and peaceful, with a name like Sunset, I imagined more of a view.

💰Price – It was an expensive stay, but also on par with other Hermann accommodations where you had the entire place to yourself. I compared other options in town, but figured that for the price, we’d try the unique experience of a treehouse rather than a convenient, but basic place more in town.

This is the Perfect Stay For…
Couples looking for a unique getaway near Hermann, especially those who want easy access to wineries and downtown attractions while still having a quiet place to relax at the end of the day. They also have some larger options that would be better equipped for small families, a pair of couples, or a group of friends.
Would I Plan a Trip Around This Stay?
I could see someone planning a night or two here specifically for the novelty of staying in a treehouse. Personally, I think the treehouse works best as part of a Hermann getaway rather than the sole reason for visiting.

💚 💚 💚
The Sunset Treehouse at The Cottage in Hermann, Missouri, offers a unique and comfortable place to stay close to everything Hermann has to offer. The included breakfast items, twinkle lights in the loft, and peaceful deck space added thoughtful touches that made the experience memorable.

While I do think the outdoor spaces could have been better maintained for the price point, we still enjoyed our stay. If you’re looking for a unique lodging experience near Hermann’s wineries, shops, and downtown, the treehouse is a fun alternative to a traditional hotel or bed and breakfast. It is comparably priced to Airbnbs in town.
Have you stayed at The Cottage? Which place did you stay in? What were your thoughts?
