During our recent weekend visit to Holiday World, we stopped by The Creme Coffee House in Owensboro, Kentucky for a coffee and a quick breakfast. The coffee house offers house roasted coffee, bakery treats, smoothies, a breakfast menu, and seasonal coffee specialties in a welcoming environment in the heart of the old dowtown area.

Initial Reaction
I was instantly drawn to the eclectic interior of the coffee shop, with mix matched furniture and decor throughout. It felt unique and homey at the same time, and the dim lighting was a fresh pivot from the usual bright minimal look we often see in a lot of chain coffee houses today.
Coffee Order
I didn’t order my usual test drink while I was here. The menu boasts a wide variety of specialty coffees, traditional coffee, non-coffee drinks, and a full seasonal board.

Specialty Latte: Iced Rocket Fuel Latte
Chris ordered the Rocket Fuel, which has caramel, white chocolate, toffee nut, and two extra shots of espresso. You could definitely taste the double shot and it was a great choice for a morning boost with some flavor. The combination of white chocolate and toffee added a good balance to the strong pick me up.

Summer Seasonal Latte: Iced Pecan Pie Latte
This seems more like a fall item in my mind, but nonetheless, it sounded delicious so, I decided to give it a go. It was made with caramel, praline, and brown sugar with thick whipped cream on top (optional). It was definitely on the sweeter side of the two drinks, but I loved the flavors an thought they paired well together. The caramel was the strongest but all of the flavors came through. I would consider this one a tasty morning treat.
Bites
We also decided to have some breakfast while we were here! The Creme has a section of sandwiches, gourmet toast, and pastries for their breakfast offerings. They also have a great selection of sandwiches available for lunch
Breakfast Monte Cristo:

Chris had the breakfast Monte Cristo. This was different from your usual Monte Cristo because it was between two mini waffles. He said it was filling, but the waffles made it feel more on the sweeter side rather than savory.
Avo Everything Toast:

I chose one of the gourmet toast options. It was simple and filling with a hefty serving of cream cheese, sliced avocados, and everything seasoning. I’d regretting not ordering the additional egg on top, but it was so filling that I ended up being glad that I didn’t. Simple but satisfying!
Pretty Rounded Snapshot
☕Coffee Quality: The house roasted coffee had a good flavor and though many of the specialty drinks were on the sweeter side, they had a unique combination of flavors that were well curated and fun to try.
🕯️Cozy Factor: The hodge podge decor here is one of a kind and it created a unique sort of coziness that you won’t find in a lot of coffee shops today. The dim lighting, multiple seating options, and variety of artwork hanging also added to the unique cozy feel.
💻Work-Friendly: While it’s not the most well-lit space for meetings or calls, I do feel like it could be a great place to work on other projects. It wasn’t too noisy and the back area is more private if you wanted to take your coffee to a quiet corner.

🛋️Linger Level: The Creme Coffee House felt like it wants you to linger there for awhile. It has regular tables and comfier furniture options, inviting you to sit down and grab a bite or cozy up with a book or a chat with a friend. The soft lighting makes it feel like they are not trying to rush you anywhere and instead are inviting you to stay awhile.
✨Atmosphere: The atmosphere here feels more like an ecclectic gathering or hangout place than simply a coffeehouse.
💰Price: Everything felt comparably priced to other independent coffee houses.

This is the Perfect Coffee Shop For…
Sitting down with a book, meeting with a friend, grabbing a quick bite to eat, or for someone who doesn’t like the feel of chain coffee houses.
Would I Go Back?
If I ever make my way to Owensboro again, I would certainly pop back in!
