During our most recent stay in Edinburgh, we stayed at the Royal Scots Club Hotel in New Town. For this portion of our trip, we booked through Fairways to Heaven Golf Company, which arranged this stay. The Royal Scots Club is a historic hotel found amongst a row of Georgian homes on Abercromby Place.
Type of Stay: Hotel

First Impression:
The Royal Scots Club Hotel is in a beautiful Georgian townhouse on a lovely street, making it feel quite a quaint place to stay and a positive first impression on the exterior. The lobby is small, and you don’t get the full feel of the hotel until you move toward the rooms and shared areas.

🕯️Cozy Factor – The rooms differ in coziness, but the common areas have a traditional and warm atmosphere with tartan decor and a casual feel. Despite being a club environment, these spaces felt intimate and welcoming. Our family-style room had some cozy touches, such as a sitting area and plenty of natural light from the window.
💫Character – Once again, the common areas had a lot of character, unique to the history of the club. Our group had four rooms, styled differently with varying levels of character. Rooms in the main building, rather than the annex, seemed to have more character that matched the overall hotel style.
🌈Uniqueness – The Royal Scots is a mid-level uniqueness. It felt more classic, but had a unique history with the club dating back to the early 1900s, honoring the Royal Scots regiment. If you’re looking for classic comfort with a little more story than your average hotel, this place might have the perfect amount of uniqueness for you.
🥐Amenities – The hotel featured an on-site cocktail lounge, library, free Wifi, event spaces, 24-hour reception, and a breakfast area with included breakfast in the mornings.
Staff – I didn’t interact with much staff during my stay outside of reception, but they were always friendly and welcoming each time I walked through and returned my keys.
🛣️Location – The Royal Scots Club is in the New Town area of Edinburgh. It is in a quieter, more residential spot, but still a quick walk to Princes Street and a 15-20 minute walk to the Royal Mile and Old Town sights.
😴Sleep Quality – The beds were comfortable, and our room did not pick up any noise during the evening from other parts of the hotel.
🌄Views – No views here, other than being able to view more rooms from our window. We were even able to wave at my mom from hers.
💰Price – This hotel averages around $277 per night, depending on the style of room chosen. For the quality, with its understated classic luxury and history in a central location of Edinburgh, I found the price to be affordable and in line with other stays in the area.

This is the Perfect Stay For…
The Royal Scots Club Hotel is the perfect place to stay for couples, business travelers, or guests seeking to stay in a quieter area of Edinburgh. It also works well if you’re traveling with a bigger family or large group, as there are plenty of rooms and the family rooms offer ample space. If you’re someone who favors a more classic style over updated and modern, this is certainly a hotel to consider over the usual chain accommodations.
Would I Plan a Trip Around This Stay?
No. It’s a great place, but not the central highlight in a place like Edinburgh.

💚 💚 💚 💚
A relaxing stay in New Town outside the hustle and bustle of the main tourist spots in Edinburgh. It was a great place to unwind after busy days exploring the city, with lounge and breakfast areas perfect for convening with the group. It’s a spot I’d recommend and consider staying at again in Edinburgh.
